- ChatGPT is approaching 1 billion weekly users less than four years after launch - the milestone is arriving seven months later than OpenAI originally targeted - growth slowed following the troubled GPT-5 launch and increasing competition from Gemini and Claude - more than 50 million people now pay for ChatGPT, equivalent to roughly 5% of its weekly user base (same as before) - enterprise customers already generate more than 40% of OpenAI’s revenue, with the company expecting that share to reach 50% this year (looking at you, anthropic) - ChatGPT is projected to generate $25 billion in revenue this year - OpenAI nevertheless projected that it could burn roughly $25 billion in cash across the company - its adjusted operating margin was reportedly negative 122% in the first quarter - Anthropic has reportedly overtaken OpenAI in revenue, driven largely by its enterprise business
